About us
Homerswood Farm

Welcome to Homerswood Farm Experiences! My name is Liz and together with my husband Gary, we have the pleasure of owning a small 14 acre hobby farm on the outskirts of Welwyn in Hertfordshire. With more than 25 years of experience as a primary school teacher, I recently took the decision to quit my day job to focus on getting the farm ready to welcome visitors to share in the joy of spending time and interacting with these beautiful animals.

Our Story

We first bought our land back in 1995 and for many years kept horses here, running a small livery business. The fields are surrounded by woodland, which is beautiful and one of the farm's many charms, but sadly due to environmental changes in the toxicity of Sycamore trees to horses, we were unable to safely continue the equestrian side of things.

No longer able to keep horses here, we invested in a couple of alpacas as we had heard that they were good lawnmowers! So arrived Casper and Norman and the start of our love of all things alpaca! We instantly fell in love with these gentle and peaceful creatures and over the next few years expanded our little herd, including breeding a few of our own. The picture opposite is of me with our first cria (baby alpaca) Hector born in 2020.

Absolutely loving being 'farmers' we then decided to branch out and bought a couple of pygmy goats, Oscar and Pablo - what a revelation! Pygmy goats are such fun! They have huge personalities and just love to be loved - sometimes a little too much! Two more babies have just arrived, Banjo and Cookie, who are eagerly waiting to meet new visitors for a cuddle!

Goats were then followed by micro pigs and the arrival of Stanley and Molly - oh my goodness; adorable, smart, fun and super friendly! Two unbelievably adorable piglets have just arrived and are looking forward to a cuddle and tummy rub :)

Once we had a proper little farm, we decided that it would be lovely to share our experiences, knowledge  and enjoyment with others. The benefits of interacting with animals and nature are widely recognised and while there are many open farms/petting zoos around, none seem to offer a really personal experience and the opportunity to truly interact and spend quality time with the animals without anyone else around. This is particularly valuable for children and adults with special needs who can become overwhelmed in such busy and noisy environments. So the idea of our bespoke farm visits was born!
